This is incredible: intricate paper cut of a swan by FAKE illustrator MJ Lomax. Buckets full of patience, talented man.

Take a look through MJ Lomax’s portfolio, you’ll see the illustration he did for a poem by Paul Askew ‘PIGEONS ARE THE ALCOHOLICS OF THE BIRD WORLD’ which featured in FAKE 004, you’ll recognise the image from our banner.

Pixel illustrations at its best (NSFW)

kuvva:

There seem to be veil of mystery hanging around this artist. A quick visit to his website doesn’t reveal much other than his peculiar, yet intriguing pixel works and gif’s and a way to get in touch with him. Nevertheless, Uno Moralez has created a wonderful series of nostalgic pixel illustrations giving you a peak of his surreal and twisted mind full with odd-looking creatures and scenario’s. It even includes piece of a man dressed as a goat-like bearded fisherman befouling a deceased body (hence the NSFW warning, or check it out if nobody is looking). Regardless of his perverted sense of humor, he’s excellent at what he does and the works are simply brilliant!

Poe Visualized by Harry Clarke

From the 1919 deluxe edition of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Harry Clarke reached deep into those dark, flinching corners underneath the bed and ripped out the grotesque horrors that lurked within, creating these macabre illustrations that accompanied Poe’s disturbing classics like “The Pit and the Pendulum” and the “The Telltale Heart” perfectly. In the same vein as Stephen Gammell’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark monstrosities decades later, these illustrations are sufficient evidence that while some stories can be even more frightening when left to your imagination, it takes a truly visceral artist to give those shadows form and really scare the bejeezus out of you.
